VOLUNTEER
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN VOLUNTEERING FOR THE 2010 FLORIDA BRAIN CANCER WALK. AT THIS TIME WE HAVE FILLED ALL OF OUR VOLUNTEER SLOTS, BUT WE INVITE YOU TO STILL COME OUT AND ENJOY THE EVENT AS A PARTICIPANT OR SPECTATOR!
Volunteers make a difference!
With your help, the Florida Brain Cancer Walk will no doubt become one of the most successful races in the South Florida area! In this very first year it is so important to have dedicated volunteers that will help us not only in the planning stages of the event, but also in helping out on Walk Day.
We can’t do this without you and look forward to adding you to our passionate team!

Volunteer Opportunities Prior Walk Day
Planning Committee
Leading up to Walk Day it is important to have a dedicated group of volunteers to serve on the Planning Committee. These volunteers will help us with team recruitment, participant communications, solicitation of donated items for Walk Day, and promotion of the event throughout the local area through brochure and poster distribution. The time commitment associated with participating on this committee can be as large or small as you are comfortable with. The important thing is that you are dedicated to help the Florida Brain Tumor Walk succeed and that you will give your all to the tasks you take on.
Volunteer Opportunities on Walk Day
The following are volunteer opportunities for Walk Day. When you register to volunteer, please specify which one of these opportunities you prefer and we will try to fulfill all requests. On Walk Day you may be switched to other stations or duties if the need arises and we ask that everyone be flexible.
Registration and Setup — Time: 5:00 AM - 8:30 AM
Prior to the start of the event volunteers will assist with Setup and Registration/Check-In. Duties could include setting up tables and chairs; hanging banners and distributing signage throughout the event site; running and maintaining registration and check-in; collecting on-site pledges; assisting participants as they arrive; supporting the Kids Fun Run and distributing bibs and t-shirts. There will be a brief training on the morning of the Walk so you will know exactly what to do.
Walk/Run Course — Time: 5:00 AM - 8:30 AM
Prior to the start of the event volunteers will assist with setup of the Walk/Run Course. This role could include setting up route signs, stocking and manning water stations, managing runners time shout-outs, ushering runners through the finish line, or other activities. There will be a brief training on the morning of the Walk so you will know exactly what to do.
Survivor Tent — Time: 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM
Throughout the course of the event participants will have an opportunity to visit the survivor tent. This tent will contain the Wall of Hope and special treats for brain tumor survivors participating in the event. Volunteers in this area will serve to answer any questions participants have about the event, the benefiting organizations or Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. There will be a brief training on the morning of the Walk so you will know exactly what to do.
Food and Beverage — Time: 6:00 AM - 8:30 AM
During the Race/Walk portion of the event there will be a number of role that need to be filled including: course managers, water station attendants, finish line ushers, survivor tent volunteers and Kids Fun Run supporters. There will be a brief training on the morning of the Walk so you will know exactly what to do.
Breakdown — Time: 10:00 AM 12:00 PM
Following the Walk/Run we will need volunteers to help breakdown the event site. These individuals are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer in other areas leading up to break down, but will be expected to stay until the area has been cleaned and packed up. This activity may require some heavy lifting (40-60 lbs.).
