Welcome to The Personal Page of Amanda Loew Rocco
Welcome to my fundraising page! Despite a fear of heights (breaking in to a sweat every time I think about December 3rd!), I’ve committed to raise funds to benefit cutting-edge brain cancer research through ABC2 by rappelling down the side of a building! On December 3, 2017 I will rappel down the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the largest building on the San Diego waterfront. The most exciting part is, all the money raised for this event will be channeled to San Diego-based research projects.
Those of you near and dear to me probably already know that in January of 2014, I lost my father, Jack Loew, to GBM- one of the most lethal types of brain cancer. My father fought brain cancer for six months, before it took his life. During that time, I accompanied him to the radiation treatment center on several occasions. While it was difficult to watch my father battle the disease, it was harder still to see so many children in that treatment center. Some of these children had spent much of their lives in and out of hospitals, robbed of a healthy childhood. I can offer no greater service to my father's memory, than to try and help fund brain cancer research.
I am dedicated to fight this deadly disease. There are almost 700,000 people living with brain tumors and about 80,000 more will receive a primary brain tumor diagnosis this year. Despite the amount of brain tumors, and their devastating prognosis, there have only been four (4) FDA approved drugs to treat brain tumors in the past 30 years. More research is desperately needed. As an individual, I can only do so much, but with your help, and the efforts of my community and my fund raising team, a far greater funding impact can be made.
Thanks in advance for your support!
