Chuck Helsel's Page to support brain cancer research
Welcome to my fundraising page! I’ve committed to raise funds to benefit cutting-edge brain cancer research through ABC2 by rappelling down the side of a building! On December 9, 2018 I will rappel down the Manchester Grand Hyatt, the largest building on the San Diego waterfront. The most exciting part is, all the money raised for this event will be channeled to San Diego-based research projects.
I am dedicated to fight this deadly disease, in memory of my mother in law, Marsha Dunigan, who passed away at a young 63, friends, clients no longer with us and in honor of those are currently challenged with brain cancer.
There are almost 700,000 people living with brain tumors and about 80,000 more will receive a primary brain tumor diagnosis this year. Despite the amount of brain tumors, and their devastating prognosis, there have only been four (4) FDA approved drugs to treat brain tumors in the past 30 years. More research is desperately needed.
Thanks in advance for your support!
My Personal Web Log
24 hours to go Thanks for all the support
In 24 hours, I will be repelling down 35 floors of the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel raising funds to benefit cutting-edge brain cancer research.
My mother-in-law Marsha Dunigan passed at the young age of 63 over 14 years ago from Glioblastoma brain cancer. It was heart wrenching to see my wife's mother, pass so fast with no hope or answers.
Asking all I know to give to support this great cause while I go Over the Edge has been inspiring. Many friends have shared their stories of loved ones who have had or currently challenged with brain cancer.
As I go Over the Edge tomorrow, I will be wearing my mother-in-law's and others names in memory and honoring those who are currently challenged with Brain Cancer. Please let me know if there is a name you would like me to honor.
Thank you so much if you have already given.
If you want to come to watch my descent down the Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel, come at 10:00 am. There is a 4th floor Pool Deck viewing area that is also the landing zone.
Again, thanks for all the support, Chuck

19 Days to go.... Happy Thanksgiving
I am so thankful to be spending Thanksgiving with Lisa and the girls together in La Jolla. Thanks to my friends, family, business associates and clients generously supporting me in my efforts to raise funds for brain cancer research, I have increased my goal to $4,000.
Since the inaugural Over the Edge for Brain Cancer San Diego event in 2013, all of the funds raised have gone towards San Diego-based brain cancer research. Here are the details of one very important research projects ABC2 was able to fund at the University of California San Diego. It's focus's on the type of brain cancer my mother-in-law died of at only 63 years old.
New Clinical Tests for Monitoring Glioblastoma
Title: MicroRNA as a Biomarker Platform for Glioblastoma Testing
Investigators: Clark Chen, Bob Carter
Grantees: University of California San Diego, Regulus Therapeutics
In glioblastoma, a major need is a sensitive but minimally-invasive clinical tool for detecting when a tumor begins to recur and when it is or is not responding to drug treatment. To address this problem, ABC2 established a collaboration between the University of California San Diego and the biotechnology company Regulus Therapeutics. This collaboration is drawing upon the expertise of both institutions to develop a new method for monitoring glioblastoma.
Over the Edge for Brain Cancer benefits San Diego-based brain cancer research through ABC2 (Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure).
Please give to this great cause and come watch me go over the edge on 12/9 at the Manchester Grand Hotel.

34 days till I go over the edge.
34 days to go and I'm getting excited to go Over The Edge. Thanks to my friends, I'm getting closer to my goal of raising more than $2,500 to cure brain cancer.
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks

Thanks for the birthday gifts
In lieu of presents, I asked invitees for my 60th Picnic and Concert Festival to support my fight to brain cancer. I thank my friends for donating over $1,300 for brain cancer research here in San Diego and over $500 to support a family challenged and dealing with brain cancer.
With 200 days left I look forward to continuing to raise more funds and increasing my goal.
I'm very excited about rappeling down the Manchester Grand Hyatt in December but more importantly being part of a group that is making a difference in supporting additional research for Brain Cancer.
Thanks for joining me and come see me rappel down, Chuck
