Florida Brain Cancer 5K!
Every day when I go to work, I'm looking for ways to improve health for the American population as a whole. Sometimes this feels rather abstract based on exactly what the project of the day is. Contributing directly to brain cancer research is anything but abstract, and that is the reason I'm participating in the Florida Brain Cancer 5K next month, and asking my friends to take a look at this cause and consider a donation. This organization was brought to my attention by a good friend, and if you are interested, you can read her story that she wrote in honor of Mike, her angel:
I am running in the 2019 Florida Brain Cancer 5k in honor and memory of my best friend and late fiance, Mike.
Mike was diagnosed with a stage 2 brain tumor in 2011 when he was 22 years old. Ever since that time, Mike never let cancer slow him down. He had an untameable sense of adventure and unwavering devotion to making others happy. He studied hard in medical school to fulfill his dream of healing others, but he always found time to be silly. He was adventurous and found joy and comfort in playing music. He was selfless - almost to a fault - and would drop everything to help a friend in need. He loved wholeheartedly, he lived for each moment, and he was always, always smiling.
When Mike passed away in April 2015, I lost my sweetheart and best friend. But I didn't lose hope. I know that a cure is out there, and I am now even more determined to raise as much money as possible for this year's 5k, in Mike's memory and so that others never have to fight this horrid disease.
My hope this year is to raise at least $5,000. The money raised is going directly to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure, a non-profit organization that funds high-risk brain cancer research.
Please consider donating ANY amount to this cause. Every little bit is appreciated! But don't worry if you're unable to donate. You can always help by forwarding a link to my page to your friends and family. And if you'd like to join us on February 24, 2019, we'd love to have you! Just click "join" on the right.
Thanks so much for your love and support! Together, we will perpetuate Mike's memory, honor him, and help beat brain cancer! :)
